Friday 25th May 2007 sees the debut of one of Worcester’s most promising singers to date, Pippa Jennings, at the Virgin Tavern on the Tolladine Road in Worcester. Pippa is a rare breed because unlike many wannabe singers out there, she actually has plenty of talent and charisma which will be evident in her debut performance.
I had the chance to hear a few of her recent recordings and while they may be cover versions of existing tracks, it is very unusual to find cover versions that are actually better than their original counterparts. Yet Pippa manages to bring her own uniqueness and a fresh style to songs such as “Sound of the Underground” by Girls Aloud, “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn and “Shout” by Lulu.
Her set list for her debut performance promises to be an eclectic mix of songs old and new, to which Pippa will bring her own exceptional technique and vocal style. I’m sure that following Pippa’s first appearance she will soon be performing in other venues in and around Worcester.
Pippa’s debut will be from around 9pm on May 25th and I hope that some of you reading this will pop down to the Virgin Tavern and support Worcester’s new up and coming talent.
