Now that the season has finished?? Well no…. This Warriors fan is an all round rugby fan too so last weekend I watched both Premiership semi finals and this weekend it was the Final where Tigers overcame Gloucester in some style. Much as it pains me to say, Tigers are playing the sort of Rugby that I love. Their pack is awesome, using the maul to grind down their opposition and then bring into play their very talented back line. Some of whom could grace any pack’s back row.
There are moves afoot to curtail the sort of power rugby that Tigers displayed today by changing the laws in such a way that the mauls and rucks that typify Rugby Union will be gone. I really hope that is not the case or Union will be in danger turning into a 15 man version of Rugby League. Safety of players is being cited as a reason to modify the rules but most players would not choose to make such radical changes to the forward game at this is the basis of Rugby Union.
So on to the Heineken Cup Final between Tigers and Wasps next weekend and then it’s some IRB 7’s in London and Edinburgh , along with England in South Africa, Wales in Australia, the Churchill Cup in UK and there is always the Super 14’s Final between the Sharks and Bulls to watch as well.
So no hibernation just watching more Rugby as a neutral or very partisan England fan.. Oh did I mention that Pat Sanderson is in the England squad and Richard Blaze is in the England Saxons squad for the Churchill Cup . So there are 2 Warriors to cheer on this summer.
And if I get really bored I can always sit and speculate about which international stars will be signed to the Warriors squad over the summer… Henson? Carter? Who knows……?????
