Joan and I accompanied the Lord Lieutenant and his wife to his annual awards ceremony for the poppy appeal competition, which is open to
all cadet units in the county.
The top prize went out of the city but I am pleased to say the runner- up was Luke Duggan from the Army cadets.
He is also a student at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College.
Top sea cadet was Chantelle Taylor and Worcester Troop Royal Artillery won the unit competition. Well done to all of you.
We also attended the friends of the hospital annual meeting.
They had a guest speaker but for some reason she did not turn up so I gave them an off the cuff tale of my year as mayor.
It seemed to go down well and has led to other bookings later in the year… well an ex-mayor has to fill the time in somehow.
Chris Morecroft, the principal at Worcester College of Technology, took us a tour of the college.
I didn’t realise they covered so many subjects. Amazing.
They also took over the old magistrates court and police station when it became vacant.
My old office has changed a great deal and the court is unrecognisable.
We had lunch in Spires restaurant and it was as good as the best anywhere.
If you haven’t been there for lunch or dinner give it a try. I guarantee you will be impressed.
One rather sad event was attending the funeral of Jim Tiller, who was mayor’s officer for a number of years.
I never knew Jim but the attendance of past mayors at his funeral showed how popular he had been.
Remember him in your prayers.
Redhill Primary School made us very welcome when we attended an assembly at their new school.
The children are lovely. We were given a conducted tour by the two Bens, Raija and Millie, who are a credit to the school.
It may be a new building but already there is a feeling of warmth. I look forward to their school council visiting the Guildhall for my final mayoral engagement next week.
It was a pleasure to invite Canon Alvyn Petterson into the parlour this week and thank him for his support and friendship, and that of all the cathedral staff, over the year. It has always been such a pleasure on our very many visits and we shall certainly miss the involvement with that important part of city life.
