SO it’s all down to the last day – the rugby, of course. We did think we might do it last Sunday (we being the Warriors), but it didn’t happen – and what makes it worse is that I’m not going to be there for the game against Saracens.
I’m on the far side of the world, but have the internet set up and will be listening across the ether to see what happens. It will be a long day and there will be too much tension for my liking.
Something we had been waiting a long time for was the start of the cricket season this week, and what a superb day it was weather-wise at New Road, although the team didn’t do so well.
It’s funny how people always sit in the same seats at New Road, and on other grounds it seems. No matter what the weather is or which side of the ground they are playing on, they are always sitting in the same seats.
I remember working at Leicester one day when the wicket was on one side of what is a very big ground, and two guys sat for four days on the furthest seats from where the play was taking place. Habit, I guess.
Good luck to Martley Cricket Club lads this Saturday. They are not playing cricket but pulling a Taylors of Martley lorry from Broadheath to their village.
I had been asked to join in, but think I might be working. However, look out for the lads and the lorry on the road. I suspect that it will not be travelling very fast.
I hope to write something for you next week and with the internet being such an amazing device may be able to get it over to you, but can’t promise.
I am playing five games of cricket over two weeks, so I can assure you that there will be a lot of resting in between those games.
Talking of the web, we began our internet cricket service this week – the Worcester News is also carrying live internet coverage from New Road – and it seems very strange to think that someone in Chicago could actually be listening to us from the Worcestershire CCC ground.
Well, I’m off to pack my kit, so those of you who are at Sixways next week give the lads an extra shout for me, and remember whatever happens there will still be a Worcester Rugby Club next season.
