When I retired from the police, I thought crown courts were put behind me but here I was for a second appearance of my mayoral year.
This time it was to present the Heartbeat Award to Rumpole’s Restaurant, in the court complex.
The manager, Sally Winter, worked single-handed to get the award and it is richly deserved.
Sadly, due to a busy schedule, no one from her company could spare the time to support her and the staff at the presentation. Pop in for a coffee, it is very pleasant there.
Our big event this week has been the 20th anniversary of our twinning with Kleve. Nevill and Angela Swanson, together with Les and Rosemary Tunley, worked hard to ensure all from our twin town enjoyed a superb visit.
Joan and I hosted a reception in the Guildhall for our German visitors, their hosts and friends, including 12 past mayors of the city, where presentations were made to Kleve burgermeister Theo Brauer, and Karl-Heinz Kosters to mark the occasion.
Karl-Heinz has worked tirelessly over the years to ensure the twinning is successful and this was marked with a presentation on behalf of the city council of an illuminated scroll.
After the reception we all enjoyed a superb meal at the new award-winning St George’s Catholic Hall where it was nice to see Father Paul join us.
Still on the topic of food, we joined Jason Donovan for a lunch to launch Noah’s Ark appeal to raise a million pounds.
They need this to build a house that will assist in their work with bereaved children.
It’s such a worthy cause and I’m sure you join with me in wishing them good luck in their endeavours.
As one of my charities I really hope they achieve it.
Ian Lumley and the Worcester Male Voice Choir invited Joan and I to join them for their annual awards lunch.
We thoroughly enjoyed the company of those who we can really now call friends.
Lots of awards were given but a special mention to Bryan Peters, who received the 20 years service award. Well done, Bryan. You can hear the choir at Huntingdon Hall on St George’s Day.
Finally, very special congratulations to our daughter Jill, who has passed her sergeants exam at the first attempt.
I will resist the temptation to say she is a chip off the old block!
