Now it would not be Friday and it would not be the Bradders column if I didn’t write something about the local sporting scene... so let’s talk about gardening.
Only because I did some rotovating last weekend. Very grown up it was, but to be honest the ground was so hard it was more a case of stopping the machine running, or rotovating, off through the hedge. It was a dust bowl by the time I’d finished.
And then me and Wolfe the Yorkshire terrier went for a romp up the fields and I couldn’t believe how dry and cracked it all was.
It was a great Easter weekend for sunbathing and getting out but we could do with some rain. I sound more like my dad every day.
Also the sun has brought out the car booters and I believe it was chaos at one at the weekend, as so many people wanted to get in.
I did manage 10 minutes at a small one, at which I bought a genuine Picasso, two Roman coins, and the original copy of Pilgrim’s Progress. Mind that did cost me a fiver for the lot!
The cricket starts on Wednesday and I am more than a bit excited as BBC Hereford & Worcester are doing commentary on every day of the county season, championship, Pro 40, National Trophy, Twenty/20 – the lot – so I will be spending a bit of summer at New road and other venues.
Best of luck to the county, and the chairman’s lunch this week was excellent, as ever.
No, I have a confession to make. I hope the Warriors relegation battle is sorted out this weekend, as I will not be at Sixways for the last game of the season!
I have a long-term commitment to go to some distance place (no not Tenbury Wells) to play some cricket and when I looked at the fixtures I was convinced I would be here for the Saracens game.
But, of course, if the Saints lose to Wasps on Sunday lunchtime, and Warriors win at Irish, or rather Reading, then we will be safe, and I can relax on a distant beach. Bristol last Saturday was all too tense – I can’t do that anymore at my age.
Thanks to Malvern Town Football Club who asked me along to their do at New Road last week.
Well done to Paul Pallett and the team for all their efforts, and Town have done OK on the pitch as well at their new level.
Off now to practise my commentary skills, as if If ever had any. Come on you Warriors...
