On Sunday morning, I drove down to London, and was ‘entertained’ by the traffic going the other way on the M4.
Sunday saw the Carling Cup Final in Cardiff between Arsenal and Chelsea, so many supporters of both teams were heading from London to Cardiff for the game.
There were lots of coaches, and there were lots of cars with scarves and flags of both team adorning them.
What amused me was the sort of cars they were flying from – four-wheel-drives (Chelsea tractors, as they are known), BMWs, Mercedes and the like. And football used to be the working man’s game...
This week, we have had Premiership clubs saying they would reduce prices for next season, while the Baggies
reduced the prices for the game against Middlesbrough and got a near full house.
The problem, of course, is that will mean less money for the clubs, less money for players, and what will they do then, poor lads?
I went to Gloucester on Saturday and I thought the Warriors did rather well. They didn’t win, but they played well enough to. That is maybe the story of the season.
Several ‘Glaws’ folk were kind enough to say Worcester were not the worst side they had seen this season, but the fact remains they simply haven’t won enough games.
We did discuss the merits or not of relegation, if it happens, that is.
It was generally agreed there were some very nice places to visit in Division One, the rugby would be cheaper, the pies (Otley and Exeter) would be better, and the Warriors would win more games.
Just trying to soften the blow in case the worst happens.
Mostly sport this week, I’m afraid. I bumped into an old
footie-playing chum Ian Blaney this week. We used to turn out for the Barmaid’s Bosom on a Sunday morning when they had a team – a poor one at that.
He reminded me of a few years ago when snow covered the Midlands and there was nothing to watch on the Saturday afternoon, but South Wales had no snow and Worcester City were playing a Welsh Cup game in Bridgend... so we battled out of the county and down the M50. How keen were we ?
I’m out with the Worcester Male Voice Choir tonight at the Guildhall in Worcester for the Mayor’s Charity Concert. It should be fun – come along.
