Unbelievably go-ahead has been given to the retail development at Lowesmoor....at last! As i understand it agreements have been reached to include the buildings there with preservation orders or historical value in the development.

People outside of worcester tell me that worcester is fantastic for shopping but lets be realistic our beautiful city has retained its character but not really kept up with consumer demands...I was beginning to think that the council would never approve an application that included Asda as they have turned down several before...perhaps if they had substituted the name Asda for TESCO it would have been approved a long time ago!....
The good news it will draw more people into the city, create a 1000 jobs, provide hundreds of parking spaces and give consumers extra choice. The cost? The buildings that have remained run down and empty for the last few decades will now be put to good use...the alternative would be yet another out of town shopping centre that would detract from the city taking customers out of itand using up more green field sites.

Now i know we have no insight into the planning process but it seems to myself and other people in the city that the chosen few get permission for extensions etc without breaking sweat (ie tesco!) while others get made to wait and wait. If we are to get tens of thousands of extra homes to be built around the city this brown field site has been put to good use allowing residential areas to be build outside the actual city. Lets hope the plans for the new homes include more schools and services too.
