Have you made your new years resolutions yet ? Will it be the same old ones – lose weight, decorate the bathroom, stop swearing/smoking/ drinking/moaning, the usual stuff.
The folks at Sixways will not be sad to see the end of 2006. The end of last season and the start of this have been pretty poor results-wise, and the two defeats at home over Christmas have left the Warriors right in the mire.
Thanks to the one or two people who decided to shout abuse at me after the game on Wednesday, although I wasn’t quite sure why I was to blame as I hadn’t actually played in the game, but maybe I was holding the microphone the wrong way or something.
But in answer to the one ‘gentleman’ who questioned my commitment to the cause, I actually played for the Worcester Colts some 40 plus years ago, was not very good and didn’t play many games but have followed the club since then. Maybe not every game in the old amateur days but I have not missed many, home and away in the last few years. But, I suspect that the bloke who offered me his opinion won’t be seen at Sixways next season if the club do go down. I will be at Northampton on New Year’s Day and at Wasps next Sunday.
To other things.
Christmas Eve, I decided to take the dog up the hills, the Malvern ones that is. Very misty and foggy – could see about 15 metres – and very cold. People emerged from the fog. It was quite eerie and I was amazed how many people were actually on the Worcestershire Beacon, and North Hill area. Folk with nippers in pushchairs and, to my astonishment, a family having a picnic! It seems they do it every Christmas Eve, whatever the weather. We Brits, nothing puts us off does it.
The dog had a bad leg the next day so no need to go again, thank goodness.
Did you get any Christmas cards from people you don’t know or don’t remember. I had two.
So to Gerry and Martine, and Pauline, Derek and family, thanks for the cards, but who are you?
Popped into the Barmaid’s Bosom last night and we did have one or two non-locals in the spit and sawdust of the back bar.
Now, I am not saying that non-locals are not welcome but it might take them a bit longer to get served and I am sure they get to pay a little bit more for their drinks as our landlord seems to have a sliding scale of charges, and it often depends on who is paying as to how much you pay.
I asked about new year’s resolutions, but Electric Ted was the only one who’d made one and he said he was going to try to give up buying a round. The rest of us assumed he’d done that last New Year’s Eve as well.
Happy New Year.
