A MAJOR bridge is set to open this week after more than half a decade of planning and construction.
Kepax Bridge in Worcester will be officially opened on Thursday (December 5).
This will be the first time residents will be able to cross the latest 'iconic' infrastructure in Worcester.
Worcestershire County Council councillor Marc Bayliss has said the project has turned out even better than he thought it would have.
Councillor Bayliss said: "After six or seven years of hard work obtaining the money, gaining planning permission, appointing contractors, working with partners and communities the time is almost here to open the fabulous new Kepax Bridge.
"I am so pleased with the final result.
"This is going to make such a big difference to so many people who will use this new bridge.
"It's fantastic and even better than I thought it would be.
"It links both sides of the city and really opens it up.
"The bridge is iconic and the natural beauty of the city is really visible from it.
"The contractors have done a fantastic job and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has made the vision a reality."
