30 creatively decorated Christmas cakes have been donated to a hospice.

The cakes were intricately iced by current and former members of the British Sugarcraft Guild to assist in St Richard's Hospice's festive fundraising.

The guild members spent hours crafting and decorating the cakes to help the hospice, based in Worcester, care for patients with incurable illnesses and provide support for their families.

Ann Newton, who was the chairperson of the guild's Droitwich branch before it closed in March, said: "While our Droitwich branch is sadly no longer running, members still really wanted to support the hospice and make Christmas cakes as usual.

"Along with members of the guild’s Stourport branch, we are proud to continue the tradition of baking, decorating and donating Christmas cakes to the hospice.

"This is our 22nd year of doing so.

"It takes us hours of effort to craft the cakes, but knowing they will help raise important funds for the hospice makes it all worthwhile."

Last year, the 30 cakes donated by the guild raised £6,309 for the hospice’s care.

This year, the designs feature penguins, owls, winter scenes, gingerbread men, and more.

Ria Simons, the corporate fundraising lead for the hospice, said: "Each year we are blown away by the creativity and generosity of this group of bakers, and this year is no different.

"While the majority of cakes have already been claimed, there is a selection left which would make a beautiful festive table centrepiece or gift for a loved one.

"We are so grateful to everyone who makes these lovely cakes to help us raise the funds we need to carry on our care."

The hospice is an independent charity offering free, expert care for adults with an illness that cannot be cured, and support for their loved ones and carers.

Every year, the hospice team supports more than 3,100 patients, family members, and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

This year, it will cost around £12 million to run the hospice, which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.
