Residents have shared their thoughts on the decision to install new ANPR cameras at a pub car park in Wolverley.
The cameras, which have been installed by owners Marston's, are intended to benefit staff and customers who were having problems finding parking spaces at the Lock Inn car park.
The car park is often used by people who are not using the pub or tearoom, including parents and carers whose children attend Wolverley CE Secondary School and Sixth Form, as well as dog walkers and other residents.
The move has been met with mixed reactions with some people hitting back at having to pay to use the car park and others raising concerns about school traffic.
One social media user Simon Drew said: "What do I do if I just want to take the dog for a walk down the canal?"
Di Humphreys said: "This is going to cause so much bad feeling in the community. It’s not as if the pub is even open before 8.35am in a morning on school drop-off."
Gil Hancox added: "I think it’s a perfectly reasonable proposal but as a resident of the village, we’re just hoping the school pick-up traffic isn’t now pushed into the village.
"We’re at capacity as it stands. It’s for the school to address and not local residents to have to deal with."
Others were more supportive of Marston's and the Lock Inn with many praising the decision to help staff and customers find a space.
Jamie Haywood said: "Brilliant news and brilliant pub."
Robert Gill said: "Can’t blame them. It causes nothing but chaos and I'm guessing the school wouldn’t pay for the upkeep of the car park."
Sean Weatherstone said: "Use the car park and use the pub. It’s not difficult."
In a post on social media, the Lock Inn said customers would not be penalised for using the car park and it was designed to benefit them and the staff.
Marston's said there are two tablets for guests to register their cars for up to four hours of free parking at the site on Wolverley Road.
There is also a tablet at the Old Smithy Tea Rooms which will offer the same amount of free parking for its customers.
Anyone not using the car park for the pub or the tearoom can still park at the site for a fee.
Payments can be made via a parking app.
A spokesperson for Marston's said: "The ANPR system has been introduced to ensure our guests have somewhere to park when they visit the pub, as the car park is being used by non-patrons prohibiting our guests from parking.
"We have had no complaints from our paying guests as there is no cost for people using the pub."
Wolverley CE Secondary School and Sixth Form did not respond to a request for comment.
