Residents have been urged to keep an eye on the amount they waste this festive season.

Worcestershire County Council has made the appeal with the help of two dachshund mascots, Santa Paws and Rudog with the aim of making recycling more fun and memorable.

The council says that waste increases by nearly a third over the festive season.

Councillor Emma Stokes, cabinet member for the environment, said: "We know the festive season is hectic, and often, without realising it, we buy and waste more than we need.

"This year, we’re sharing easy tips to help everyone reduce waste and recycle more.

"And our festive mascots, Santa Paws and Rudog, are here to make the message fun and memorable.

"I want to thank everyone for joining us in these small changes that have a big impact on reducing waste and helping our community start the New Year greener than ever."

Throughout December, the council will share tips on social media about meal planning, creative leftover recipes, and recycling holiday items.

This initiative is part of the council’s commitment to a more sustainable future, aiming to be a Net Zero Council by 2050.

The council also reminds residents that kerbside collection schedules may vary over the holidays, so they should check with their district council for any changes.
