A charity has been awarded a grant to help adults improve their reading skills.

Read Easy, which works with adults with low literacy skills in Worcester, has received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The South Worcestershire branch of the charity has been given funding to expand its services.

Marianne Baker, team leader at Read Easy South Worcestershire, said: "Current figures estimate that 2.4 million adults in this country have poor literacy skills to the extent that is preventing them from fulfilling long-suppressed potential."

The charity's programme is run entirely by trained volunteers.

With the new funding, Read Easy plans to purchase reading manuals and books, cover costs for Reading Coach training, and create publicity materials.

Ms Baker hopes the programme will not only enhance participants' literacy skills but also boost their confidence and improve their outlook on life.

The grant also represents another achievement for Keith Slater and Community Boost.

The organisation has helped generate over £2 million in grant funding for community organisations and charities.

Community Boost is currently being backed by Worcester City Council’s community grants programme.

The funding will assist in collaborating with city-based voluntary and community group in the coming months.
