NO arrests have yet been made in connection with a cannabis grow in a Worcester flat, discovered after a fire as the matter remains under investigation. 

West Mercia Police has confirmed no arrests have been made and the matter is still 'under investigation' after  the cannabis was discovered at a flat in Bromyard Road, St John's, Worcester.

It was  found after police went to a house fire in Worcester while the blaze could have been 'much worse' had it not been put out before it spread to other houses 

At around 7.39pm on Thursday officers responded to reports of a house fire at a property in Bromyard Road in St John's, Worcester.

The fire service was already at the scene of the blaze, which is thought to have been started by an electrical fault, when officers arrived.

Inside, where it had been discovered that around 150 cannabis plants at various stages of growth were inside the flat.

No one was in the property, and no arrests have been made. Officers are currently at the scene making it safe so the cultivation can be cleared and enquiries into the grow continue.

Inspector Neil Solomon said: “Cannabis farms like this one not only impact negatively on our local communities as they are often linked to serious and organised criminal gangs, but they are dangerous to run and can have devastating impacts on our neighbourhoods.

“Luckily this fire was put out by the fire service before it could spread to other properties, but this could have had a much worse outcome."

Four crews attended the fire in Bromyard Road, St John's, in Worcester on Thursday at around 7.24pm. Bromyard Road wad closed during the incident near the junction with Comer Road.

A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said four crews – two each from Malvern and Worcester Fire Stations – attended the blaze.

He added: "A fire in a first-floor flat was fought by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet. All persons were accounted for and electrics to the property were isolated. Bromyard Road was closed in both directions. Police also attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 12.08am."
