HEAVY rain and strong winds did not deter residents in Droitwich from putting on a show for their annual Christmas Light Switch On.

Droitwich residents had eagerly awaited news about the event this week as Storm Bert was set to arrive and neighbouring events in Worcester and Evesham had been cancelled.

However, hundreds still braved the weather and flocked to watch the annual event despite some activities being moved inside and the Christmas Fun Fair being cancelled due to safety concerns.

Councillor Richard Morris said: The weather meant a change, but it was still a terrific occasion.

Hundreds gathered in Community Hall throughout the day to listen to performances by The Salvation Army Band and Westacre Middle School Choir, to name a couple.

The town's lights were switched on by Mayor Alex Sinton and Santa at 6pm.
