The three "cosiest" pubs in Worcestershire have been revealed.

The Walter de Cantelupe Inn in Kempsey, the Old Bush Inn in Worcester, and the Halfway House in Powick all received the top billing.

The city itself ranked 42nd in the list of 73 towns and cities across the UK.

The list was compiled by GG.co.uk, which looked at the best-rated pubs with fireplaces across major UK towns and cities.

The analysis used Google ratings and data from UseYourLocal.com for areas with populations exceeding 100,000.

Each location earned a cosiness score based on the number of pubs with real fireplaces that also featured large TV screens, broadcast sports like football, rugby, cricket, or horse racing, or provided access to Sky Sports or TNT Sports.

Gateshead was named the cosiest place in the UK for pubgoers, with a nationwide cosiness score of 98.99 per cent.

There are almost 33 pubs with fireplaces to choose from per 100,000 residents.

Blackburn, High Wycombe, Chesterfield and Huddersfield rounded off the top five, while Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Glasgow and Birmingham were at the bottom of the table.

Steve Chambers, editor for GG.co.uk, said: "You just cannot beat that cosy pub feeling that only smaller towns can offer.

"Big cities cannot compete with the warmth of less busy towns when your favourite team is playing.

"If you are visiting any of these places, make sure you save this cheat sheet for the cosiest pubs in every major town and city."
