HEAVY rain and strong winds closed roads and cancelled trains across the county.

Storm Bert hit its peak overnight but continued to wreak havoc on Worcestershire's roads today (November 24).

A new Met Office yellow weather warning for strong winds, issued in the middle of the night, was released for parts of Worcestershire including Evesham and Pershore.

A number of trees fell on roads including in Malvern, Ledbury and Evesham.

The worst hit area of the county was Tenbury Wells, where pictures showed Teme Street submerged by water and multiple roads were affected. Flooding in the town was from the Kyre Brook.

People were warned to stay away after a wall collapsed near the brook.

A viral video circulated showing a tractor driver driving through the town, spraying more water into nearby homes and businesses.

Among the roads in Worcestershire affected was the A451 between Great Witley and Dunley, where water had made the road completely impassable.

There was also flooding on the A44 between Worcester and Bromyard while the B4203 was closed both ways from Bromyard to Delamere Road due to flooding.

Emergency services across the region were stretched to their limit - urging residents to only travel if necessary and to take care when driving.

The rain led to the Environment Agency issuing almost 200 flood alerts across the country including on parts of the Avon, Severn and Stour.

People travelling by train were disrupted as West Midlands Railway said flooding on the line in Malvern meant that all services between Worcester Foregate Street and Hereford had been suspended.

The water was later cleared and buses were put on as a form of alternative transport for the stuck commuters.

Further changes, including reducing the amount of carriages on trains, were later announced for trains going between Worcester Shrub Hill and Birmingham New Street.

Five roads in Worcestershire were officially closed by Worcestershire County Council:

- Brook View, Cropthorne

- C2228 Shelsley Beauchamp

- Knightsford Bridge, Knightwick

- Teme Street, Tenbury Wells

- A443 Eardiston, Eardiston

Storm Bert also led to power outages in villages across the region including in Leigh Sinton, Malvern and Worcester.

Sky customers also lost access to the internet on Saturday evening after a power outage affected services for Sky Broadband and Talk customers.
