A POLICE dog who was originally rescued from Dogs Trust is retiring from the force.
PD Waffle, who 'has found tons of drugs and cash' is retiring from West Mercia Police after a successful 5 year career.
Waffle's career got off to a shaky start when the police discovered he refused to climb any stairs, however, luckily kennel staff were able to encourage him to overcome his fears.
He has made a real impact to the community according to the police and will be missed.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Meet PD Waffle, who joined his handler, Glenn, in December 2019 after being rescued from the Dogs Trust.
"Waffle will be six years old in January.
"His career almost ended before it even started – he refused to climb any stairs or steep steps.
"But, thanks to the amazing kennel staff who encouraged him, he overcame his fears.
"After completing an eight-week specialist search course with Glenn, Waffle became a qualified Special Search Dog in February 2020.
"Since then he’s found tons of drugs and cash, making a real impact in the community.
"Whilst most dogs are all about tennis balls, Waffle prefers meatballs as his favourite reward for being a good boy.
"Now, Waffle is retiring to a loving home with his new dad, Ian, who works as part of the police staff at West Mercia Police.
"After a fun home visit where he searched his new place, he wasted no time claiming his favourite spot – the sofa!
"Although he will miss his colleagues and friend RPD Shadow, he will also miss Glenn immensely.
"However, he is really looking forward to living in his new home with Ian and Debs.
"He will receive ongoing support throughout his retirement by West Mercia Retired Police Dogs Welfare Fund.
"Thank you, Waffle, for your service.
"Enjoy your well-earnt rest."
