THE emergency services including four fire crews rushed to the scene of a flat fire in Worcester last night as a major city road was closed in both directions.

Four crews attended the fire in Bromyard Road, St John's, in Worcester on Thursday at around 7.24pm. Bromyard Road wad closed during the incident near the junction with Comer Road.

A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said four crews – two each from Malvern and Worcester Fire Stations – attended the blaze.

He added: "A fire in a first-floor flat was fought by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet. All persons were accounted for and electrics to the property were isolated. Bromyard Road was closed in both directions. Police also attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 12.08am."

Neighbour Lucy Robson said: "Fire trucks arrived around 7:30pm and left around 3am, police were still at the scene at 4.30am this morning. "

We have also approached West Mercia Police for a comment.
