'Road rage attack' leaves man with broken eye socket

The shaken victim has supplied photos of his injuries which show him with his eye swollen shut and a split lip after he says he was struck with a barrage of punches, thrown at him by his attacker during the incident last Friday.

Connor Thomas-Webb said the man, who was not then known to him, punched him through the window of his car, smashing it before he rained down punches on him, shattering his eye socket during the incident in Worcester Road between Malvern and Powick.

During the incident he said his alleged attacker overtook him and slammed on the brakes before getting out of the car and punching him through the driver's side window, smashing it and connecting with his face.

After the alleged attack, he 'got really dizzy and ended up flat on the floor, throwing up', he said.

The 24-year-old of Malvern said: "I was shocked by the attack. The swelling and puffiness has gone down quite a lot now but there's still a glazed blur when I look out of that eye. 
"But they have told me vision will be fully restored. My 11 month old daughter was in the car with me."

He said during the alleged attack he was 'ripped out of the car' while the man landed between seven or eight blows.

Because Mr Thomas-Webb's left wrist had been broken in a crash in May, he said he struggled to defend himself as he was left with 'limited movement' and the wrist was 'extremely painful'.

Mr Thomas-Webb has to return to hospital in two weeks to see if he needs surgery but said he hoped not to need an operation. After the incident he said the police took him to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

During the incident he said he accelerated, trying to get away and damaging his alleged attacker's car while his partner called police.

"I was just trying to get away from him. My partner is emotionally scarred from it and hasn't driven a car since because she is so anxious. She is struggling to sleep. My daughter seems okay but she was terrified when it first happened. Her screaming was probably the worst thing I've ever heard," he added.

His uncle, Rob Thomas, said: "The police were called by myself whilst on route to the scene and were present on the evening after the incident. There were seven police cars and somewhere near 20police officers attendance. 

"He threatened myself as I shielded my nephew and spat in my face. But my nephew was not in a good way.

"He attacked their car and punched the window through whilst an 11 month old baby was in the backseat. Continued his assault even with that knowledge.

"When my nephew's partner tried to call the police, he took her phone and threw it into the hedge."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a call around 10pm on Friday evening (15 November) with a report of an assault on Malvern Road in Powick.

"Officers arrived at the incident and a man, 34, was arrested on suspicion of ABH and criminal damage. He is currently on bail."
