A retail worker from Worcestershire has appeared alongside famous faces on a hit BBC game show.

Bethan Foster, who works at Greggs in the Esso Garage, was picked out of more than 50,000 applicants to appear on Michael McIntyre's The Wheel.

Describing her time on the show as "fab", the 27-year-old decided to go on the quiz show after seeing an advert encouraging people to apply.

Ms Foster said: "Due to my working hours at Greggs, I don't really go out a lot at the weekends so I like to watch TV on a Saturday night. We're big fans of The Wheel and it asked people to apply at the end of one of the episodes.

"I made a joke about applying and nobody thought I would go through with it, so I thought you know what, I'm going to give it a go.

"There were more than 50,000 applicants so I didn't think I'd get picked. They do a test and get you to answer questions to get through to the next round. I kept thinking surely I won't get through to the next bit, but they kept asking questions and I ended up being picked."

She said meeting the celebrities was "surreal" but they were all lovely and made sure everyone felt at ease.

Although she didn't win the prize money, Ms Foster said it was an incredible experience and she would encourage anyone to apply.

She said: "Michael comes to meet you before they start filming and the team are really supportive. It is very surreal seeing the celebrities just casually walking around and chatting to everyone.

"Even just getting the opportunity to go up and answer questions was amazing. It feels so exciting just getting a question right.

"The hardest part was keeping it a secret from my friends and family until I got the call to say I was allowed to tell them."

She added: "I went to get my hair done last week and my hairdresser even asked for a photo to prove to her partner that gameshow contestants aren't actors. People have also been coming into Greggs and asking if it was me on the show and having a chat. I feel like a local celebrity.

"It has been really incredible and it is great to be able to show people that you can get on a game show if you're from Stourport. It was a fab experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

"I definitely want to appear on more shows in the future. I think I've caught the game show bug."
