COUNCIL workers are waiting for better weather so they can fix a slide in a city park.

The slide in Cripplegate Park has been fenced off for a number of weeks but repairing the play equipment isn’t as simple as it may seem.

Bertie Ballinger, the Conservative candidate for St John’s in next year’s county council elections, has been asking the city council about getting it fixed.

He said: “While running through Cripplegate the other week I noticed that the slide for the children’s play area was fenced off.

“After speaking later to some residents who live nearby I found out that it has been like this for some time, with no announcement for when it is to be fixed.

“I have since spoken to the council and been informed due to the complexities involved in the repair there is no date available.

“This is a shame as the slide is the centre of the play area. I remember back in 2021 the slide was closed again due to being unsafe, and I wonder what the reason behind this closure is.”

A Worcester City Council spokesperson said: “The slide at Cripplegate Park was closed due to issues with its foundations and safety surfacing.

“The council has an ongoing maintenance programme across 46 play areas and is currently prioritising repairs across the city.

“As part of the Worcester Play Plan we are looking at ways to improve the play provision at Cripplegate Park.

“We are committed to addressing the current issues with the slide as soon as possible, once weather conditions allow for the work to be carried out.”
