A BUILDING that was once a part of one of Worcester's largest factories is up for sale.

The Gilding House has been listed for £500,000 and is described as an "exciting development/conversion opportunity" in a historic city location.

The Gilding House is one of several buildings that were once part of the Royal Worcester Porcelain Works that shut down in 2009.

The site is part of a car-free development and has been classified as a brownfield site.

Since the closure of the factory, Berkley Homes has converted several buildings at the Waterside development, including the partial renovation of the The Gilding House.

In April, Barnett Group revealed plans to convert the four-floor building into eight one-bedroom apartments.

Each flat was planned to come with dedicated cycle storage as it was a car-free development.

The development was also planned to utilise renewable and smart technology to keep the flats sustainable.

The description of the property from estate agent Allen Heritage said: "The Gilding House forms part of the former Royal Worcester Porcelain Works, built around 1860 and ceased trading as a business in 2009.

"Since then, the buildings relating to the works were sold to Berkley Homes and developed into a mixed-use site.

"Six sites on the former Royal Worcester Porcelain site remain undeveloped, with The Gilding House being one of them."

The property is less than a mile from Foregate Street and Shrub Hill stations and just a short walk from the city centre.

The building is just one part of the next phase of developments at the site, which is expected to include a new gym, swimming pool, shops, restaurants and offices for residents.
