THE owners of a dilapidated hotel have been issued a deadline to make urgent repairs as the council 'runs out of patience'.

The Raven Hotel's owners have been threatened with legal action by Wychavon District Council after an investigation found urgent concerns about the safety of the building.

A court order requested by the council has given owner Live Urban Two Limited until Sunday, December 8 to fit netting to stop tiles and debris falling into the street after parts of the structure's guttering fell into the road on Tuesday, September 24.

The owners have also been ordered to reinstall props on the ground floor of the building and to complete any other work the council asks for until they deem the building to be safe.

An investigation from South Worcestershire Building Control and a structural engineer revealed significant concerns about the risk to people in the town and nearby properties.

Cllr Richard Morris, executive board member for economy and tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: "We have given the owner several opportunities to put the right measures in place to ensure the building is properly protected.

"Despite being given repeated assurances, they have not taken sufficient action and our patience has now run out."

Live Urban Two Limited was issued an informal notice by the council to make the building safe by Friday, October 25.

While work crews have been seen at the former hotel, the council has not received any evidence that work has been carried out.

Cllr Morris added: "We are not prepared to take any chances when it comes to protecting the public and we aren't prepared to lose an important town asset that we need back as a focal point supporting the community.

"While the work identified by the court needs to be carried out as a matter of urgency, the wider issue of the redevelopment of The Raven has been going on for too long.

"We need a solution sooner rather than later and that is what we will continue to push for."

If the owners do not carry out the work, the council has threatened to fine them or carry out the work on their behalf and recover the money at a later date.
