A SUSPECTED shoplifter has been caught on camera casually entering a city centre store, picking up an item, and walking out.
The man, who allegedly stole £60 worth of stock on Wednesday (November 13), was able to get away with the item despite security staff in pursuit.
CCTV cameras that security staff normally use to help pursue shoplifters were supporting another shop on Worcester's High Street and thus the man got away.
A security guard working at the store said: "This kind of brazen shoplifting is what businesses up and down the High Street are dealing with on a daily basis.
"It gets worse by the day, he just walked out of my store with £60 worth of stock.
"I ran after the man but I lost him on Church Street and Trinity Street and got away from me.
"The High Street CCTV that I would normally call on the radio to support me was tracking another incident for police at the same time where a man had stolen a vacuum cleaner.
"I'm sure other retailers in Worcester are getting hit too. It's just awful that these things are happening here and something urgently needs to be done."
Despite not catching the alleged shoplifter the security guard did alert police to the incident.
Police have since sated that they are aware of the report and enquires are ongoing.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "A theft at the shop was reported yesterday (Wednesday 14 October).
"This is now being investigated and enquiries are on-going."
The incident has come exactly a week after another man was banned from entering a city store after allegedly shoplifting.
During that incident the man supposedly took two gift sets worth nearly £120 however was caught by the security team and taken back to the store.
The man was allegedly on probation and was searched by police at the store but no other items were found to be stolen.
Because the man was caught and the items had been recovered, the store did not wish to pursue the matter any further.
