A campaign to remember lost loved ones with a 'glittering' star has been launched.

Acorns Children's Hospice is inviting people to pay tribute to family members or friends they have lost by dedicating a star in their memory.

In return, a golden star will be sent to their home and another will be hung on trees at special festive events across the region.

The campaign, called Celebrate Your Star, also asks people to make a donation towards the charity's care for seriously ill children.

Ben Gilchrist, in memory manager at the hospice, said: "It is the perfect time of year to fondly remember those who are no longer with us, and as well as receiving a glittering golden star for your Christmas tree you’ll be helping support lifeline care for local children.

"Not only can you ensure your loved ones are never forgotten, it’s the perfect way to start Christmas and to celebrate their life by coming along to one of our events."

Acorns will be hosting three special celebrations where anyone wishing to remember a loved one can come together to see the collection of stars of remembrance.

The events are free and open to all, whether people choose to make a dedication or not.

The final event is set to take place at Henry Sandon Hall, Worcester, on Sunday, December 8.

Attendance is by booking only.

Mr Gilchrist added: "Together, our galaxy of stars will help give the children and families who use Acorns magical moments throughout Christmas and into the New Year.

"Help can’t wait for them, especially at one of the most difficult times of the year.

"Write a tribute of your own to someone you have lost and come and see it hung on the trees along with the stars at one of our special events, and find their name in our Book of Remembrance.

"When you choose to Celebrate Your Star your gift will be a light in the darkness."
