A COUPLE who were saying their final goodbye just weeks ago thanked staff at a hospital as they celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.

Pat and James Elliot could not be more thankful to the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital after a new unit saved Mr Elliot's life.

The couple, who have lived in Evesham for the last 30 years, are convinced that without the care, support and professionalism shown at the hospital's new Cardiac Emergency Care Unit they would not be celebrating 60 years of marriage with their children and grandchildren.

Mrs Elliott said: "I would really like to thank Worcestershire Royal Hospital because without them we would not be celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary.

"My husband has been poorly for a while but he took a turn for the worse and we didn't think he would make it, but the attention and care he got from the new outpatient department was absolutely phenomenal.

"He was admitted on September 23, taken straight in and spoken to within 10 or 15 minutes.

"The doctors said he was too poorly to go home but they couldn't do the surgery at the hospital, so they kept him a couple of days before he was transported to Wolverhampton for cardiac surgery.

"I truly believe the work that the nurses and doctors did in Worcester saved his life and I can't be more grateful."

The couple also spent 15 years living in Bromsgrove and will be celebrating their wedding anniversary on November 14.

Mrs Elliott continued: "I was sure we wouldn't be celebrating our anniversary if it was not for their actions.

"My husband said to me that he thought he wasn't going to make it and I was distraught.

"We are back home now and he's not fully recovered but he is certainly a lot better.

"I would like to give my sincere thanks to everyone at the hospital who helped my husband but especially the team at the cardiac emergency care unit.

"You hear so much bad press and we've experienced that side of it believe me but on this occasion it was such a positive experience and they ought to be congratulated."
