RESIDENTS put on their running shoes and ran miles so their children could get new play equipment.

The children of Upton Snodsbury can now enjoy new play equipment after their entire village rallied together to raise money by hosting races.

The Snodsbury Scoot and Scramble, an annual 10k adult race and 1k children race, has raised money for the past two years to pay for the equipment.

A committee of five local parents organised the race, with over 100 runners doing the 10k and 50 children participating in a 1km race.

Natasha Dent, race director, said: "We are thrilled to have raised enough money to be able to replace the balance equipment.

"It is a huge team effort and I am very grateful to everyone for their support.

"This piece of equipment supports children's development and is vital in a park facility."

The races have been going on for three years, but only the proceedings from the June 2024 and 2023 races went towards paying for the park equipment.

Donations from local businesses, such as Fox Town, Country Homes, and CJC Aggregates, as well as a top-up grant from Wychavon District Council, helped raise enough for the balance equipment installed.

Around 50 villagers had made their way to the opening of the Upton Snodsbury's children's play park, just off Pershore Road.

Councillor Rob Adams helped officially open the park by cutting a ribbon.

In February 2023, the park got new swings thanks to the village run.Ms Dent added: "Following the ribbon cutting, the children took no time at all to enjoy the equipment.

"The next Snodsbury Scoot and Scramble will be on Sunday, June 22, 2025."

In February 2023, the Snodbsury Scoot and Scramble raised the funds needed to install a new set of swings in Upton Snodsbury Park.

It was aided by donations from local businesses, including Worcestershire Home Improvements and CJC, and a top-up grant from Worcestershire County Council.

Enough money was raised to install the swings in January and the opening ceremony took place in February.
