A GLOUCESTERSHIRE road has been named as one of the worst speeding hotspots in Britain.
The M5 in the county came 17th in a list of Britain’s most prolific speed traps compiled by law firm Legal Expert.
Data obtained by the firm also showed that the amount of speeding fines given to Gloucestershire drivers in the past year totalled £4 million.
Legal Expert put together the list of speed traps via Freedom of Information requests to all 43 police forces in England and Wales asking for the number of speeding fines issued.
The M5 motorway in Gloucestershire saw 6,939 speeding offences in the past year - an average of 19 per day.
Data obtained by Legal Expert also revealed that £12 million worth of speeding fines were issued to Gloucestershire drivers in the last three years.
£4 million was handed out this past year.
According to Legal Expert, between April last year and April this year, 41,429 penalty charge notices were given to drivers by Gloucestershire Constabulary.
The highest number of fines was issued for speeding offences on the M5.
