Worcester News readers have been revealing which place name they feel people struggle to pronounce the most, with a few locations in the county getting singled out.

The names range from well-known towns to less familiar villages, with commenters on the Worcester News Facebook page pointing out that their tricky pronunciations often leave non-locals stumped.

A favourite among readers was Leominster, a name frequently mispronounced by those unfamiliar with the area.

Wendy Roberts and Sarah Jayne Perkins both identified the Herefordshire town as a challenging place name.

Another commonly mispronounced location was Worcestershire, with no less than four readers suggesting it might be a difficult task for non-locals to correctly pronounce the name of the county.

Also frequently mispronounced, according to readers, is Alcester, with Andrew Simmons expressing his confusion over the pronunciation, asking: "Ulster? where’s that come from?"

Several readers also highlighted Kempsey, commenting on the silent 'P' in the pronunciation.

Aly Hartland said: "Kempsey."

"(It is) pronounced without sounding the P, that's how us locals have always pronounced it."

Evesham and Bevere were also mentioned as tricky place names, with Donna Bird highlighting that her sat nav even mispronounces Evesham as 'ever-sham'.

Leigh Sinton was also mentioned several times by readers, as well as Malvern and Shrewsbury.

The list also included other place names outside of the county which readers find are often mispronounced, including Tewkesbury in Gloucesershire and Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, Wales.
