POETRY at the station is a new scheme to put culture on the right track at a city railway station.
The Poetry at the Station competition has been launched and the winners will have their poems displayed in the waiting room at Worcester Foregate Street in Worcester.
Former Worcestershire Poet Laureates Ade Couper and Leena Batchelor are inviting budding and seasoned poets to submit poems on the theme of stations and trains.
The best entries will be displayed in the waiting rooms of Foregate Street Station and are intended to showcase local talent and also provide rail passengers a mindful moment on their busy commutes.
The owner of Script Haven bookshop which promotes spoken word said: "We’re delighted to have this opportunity to help promote and encourage writers in the local community, and to highlight the wellbeing benefits associated with poetry. "
Poetry at the Station is supported by WM Trains and Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership exploring new ways of developing community engagement at stations along the line.
Sunil de Sayrah of the Friends of Foregate Street Station said: "I think this is a lovely opportunity for local poets to be able to exhibit their work and also to give commuters a quiet moment of reflection and thought."
The closing date for entries is November 30 and poems are limited to 40 lines. Entries can be dropped off at the Script Haven bookshop on Cathedral Square or emailed to scripthavenltd@gmail.com The winning entries will be displayed in December and into January.
