A MOTHER is heartbroken after her two cats were 'deliberately' poisoned.
The cats, one of which has since passed away, were brother and sister and the incident has left a hole in the family.
Milo and Mabel were both less than a year old and returned to the Chipping Campden home "half dead" according to Lucy Smith.
Milo passed away on Wednesday (October 30) morning but Mabel has continued to recover but could still deteriorate.
Miss Smith said: "Milo went out on Sunday and can back on Monday (October 28) morning half dead.
"By 9pm he couldn't move, it looked like he was drugged so I rushed him to the vets.
"The vets said it looks like they were poisoned.
"They have sent off bloods but we won't know what it was for a few weeks but they did say they believed it was lead poisoning.
"There have been so many incidents like this in neighbouring villages and it seems very funny that both my cats were poisoned at the same time.
"When it comes to lead poisoning it is usually hand-direct and not lingering around, so I do believe that they were poisoned on purpose."
The brother and sister were Christmas presents for Miss Smith's son and the family has been left mortified following events from the last few days.
The mother has since set up a GoFundMe to help cover the vet costs which total in the thousands.
Miss Smith continued: "Mabel is going crazy in the house right now.
"The two would not leave each others side, it's just horrible, he was like my baby.
"She could still deteriorate but we wont know for a couple of weeks until whatever it was gets through her system.
"As a single mother it's horrific and mortifying to think that someone might have done this.
"Obviously some people will say that cats should be kept indoors but they have both been going out since they were 12 weeks old and they are very friendly
"They would go up to anyone and say hello and follow me around.
"Unfortunately being brought up with love, their kindness to people has failed them."
Abbey Green Vets Broadway said it could not comment as the matter is being investigated.
