A WOMAN was taken to hospital after she was 'smashed' in the head on a city street, according to witnesses.
The incident happened in Barbourne Walk near the Select and Save shop according to residents.
Emergency services attended the scene at around 7pm on Tuesday (October 29).
Residents heard shouting before the incident and saw four police cars and two ambulances at the scene.
A man was arrested following the incident but released with no further action.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 6.50pm to Barbourne Walk in Worcester to reports of an affray.
"When officers arrived they found a woman with a head injury, who was taken to hospital for further treatment.
“One man was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released with no further action."
The woman was taken to hospital by police and not by ambulance.
One resident said: "There was definitely something going on.
"I saw a few police cars zoom past our house and I think they stopped near the supermarket.
"It was a bit surreal although it is not unusual to see police in this area."
People living nearby said two police officers had been knocking on doors earlier in the day asking if anyone had seen anything.
Another resident said: "It happened around the shop.
"I'm a bit nosey and I saw at least two police cars and an ambulance in the area.
"I saw paramedics put someone in the back of an ambulance and it left.
"We heard a woman was smashed in the back of the head."
More emergency services were spotted earlier in the day when a man, also found on Barbourne Walk, was found in a serious condition and taken to hospital.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called just after 4pm on Tuesday to a medical incident on Barbourne Walk in Worcester.
"Two ambulances attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found a man in a potentially serious condition which was not life-threatening.
"He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Worcester Royal Hospital for further treatment.”
The two incidents are not believed to be connected.
Select and Save was approached but declined to comment on the incident.
