A councillor has expressed frustration after a bike bay in Worcester was damaged by vandals.

Residents of St Nicholas ward have been left without a designated area for Beryl Bikes after the original bay was taken out of action.

The pavement markings are still there, causing confusion that has seen people still leaving bikes there, thinking the bay is still in use.

This has resulted in several people being penalised for parking in the suspended bay.

The bikes are part of the bike-share scheme which allows people to rent bikes around the city.

The company has a number of bays around the city where the bikes can be picked up or dropped off at the end of the hire period.

Lib Dem city councillor Sarah Murray, who represents the ward, has been calling on city officials to get a replacement bay for the area.

She said the lack of a bay is impacting the community's commitment to using sustainable transport.

Councillor Murray said: “It’s unacceptable that St Nicholas residents are left without a dedicated bike bay due to an incident of vandalism

“I’ve been working to get this addressed, and the lack of response from the council is deeply disappointing.

"Not only are residents missing out on a vital community resource, but they’re also being unfairly penalised because of unclear markings that should have been removed.

"This needs immediate attention.”
