A Worcester pub has been lauded for its community spirit.

The Berkeley Arms, in School Road, has received a certificate of appreciation from St Richard's Hospice after its donation of £330.68.

The money came from various events held at the establishment, including ukulele gigs, quiz nights, and an evening with a clairvoyant.

Owner Beverley Walton, a retired mental health nurse, said: "We are a pub in the heart of the community trying to give back and support others."

The pub is known for its live music, charity fundraisers, and interactive events.

Mrs Walton and her colleague Jo Parry run a variety of activities, from a Tuesday knit-and-natter group to running three darts teams, including a new ladies' team.

The pub also has a function room free of charge for community use, a free disco/karaoke, and a Wednesday night guitar jam.

A 'new friend’s rock group' promises newcomers the chance to "walk in as a stranger and leave as a friend".

Mrs Walton, who worked in the NHS for nearly 40 years, said she enjoys her people-facing role as a landlady because it reminds her of her former job.
