Worcester City Council has been recognised for its efforts to promote inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.

The council received the INclusive Worcestershire Leader award for its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy.

The council has said that the strategy focuses on positive policies for employees' personal circumstances, including health conditions and family emergencies.

It also highlights the council's commitment to diversity in the workforce and its role as a disability-confident employer.

Councillor Lynn Denham, leader of Worcester City Council, received the award alongside Councillor Robyn Norfolk, the council’s EDI champion, and council employees.

Councillor Denham said: "The council takes a leading role in increasing equality and inclusion in the city.

"We also understand and value the contribution that different perspectives bring to the council’s work.

"Council employees have done a great job of creating a safe and inclusive working environment for everyone, which reflects the communities we serve.

"At the awards ceremony, we were able to meet like-minded employers also making a difference to Worcester people."

The city council was presented with the award at the first ever INclusive Worcestershire Forum, an initiative by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and Worcestershire County Council.
