A Worcester musical club is aiming to reach a £20,000 fundraising milestone for Children in Need with a five hour 'Uke-athon'.

The Worcester Ukulele Club is set to take on the marathon performance challenge for shoppers at the CrownGate Shopping Centre on Friday, November 15.

There will be about 50 strummers, who will perform for five hours in two shifts - the morning and afternoon.

The strummers, alongside Pudsey Bear, aim to raise funds for the charity, which supports children facing challenges such as poverty, mental health and inequality.

The club encourages passers-by to join in and dance with Pudsey Bear.

Rosemary Henman, who has been organising the annual fundraiser since it began, said: "It is our 10th year and so far, we have raised just over £18,000 in that time - hoping to make it £20,000 this year.

"We have such fun and for one of the worthiest of causes."

She added: “Players are really looking forward to November 15, and it should be another great day with lots of songs and dancing.

“Pudsey will be on hand all day to meet the children and join in the fun.

“So, if you are in the town centre please come along and say hello.”

The club has said how grateful it is for Ms Henman's hard work over the years, and extends thanks to all players and public supporters.

Last year, the strummers were joined by the then Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Louis Stephen, and his wife, the former Mayoress, Katey Stephen, as they played for generous shoppers.

They raised £1,858 and hope to surpass this total this year.
