SIX months after opening, business is booming for Kerry's Canines.

Kerry Wheeler is delighted with the success her dog grooming business has seen.

It was opened in a home cabin in Meadow Road, near Claines, by Mrs Wheeler in April after the 29 year old decided to turn her love for dogs into a career.

"It's been fantastic," she said, "I've groomed over 150 dogs since opening.

"They've been such different sizes; I've had chihuahuas right up to Newfoundland's."

But she still has her favourite breeds to groom: "I'm partial to a big dog with a lot of hair, like a husky or a collie."

Mrs Wheeler started her business with the aim of specialising for anxious dogs that struggle with other groomers and is delighted with the reaction: "It's gone really great.

"A lot of dogs can be quite nervous and find going to the groomers difficult.

"I am set up at home so it is a one to one experience, I give them plenty of time so they aren't being rushed through and I've picked up plenty of tips and tricks to help."

Having established the business, Mrs Wheeler is looking at offering even more to dogs and their owners: "Next month I'm going to start doing a dog teeth cleaning service.

"It will be available for regulars to have as part of their groom or as a one-off thing and it is to help owners keep on top of their dog's dental health to avoid any problems in the future at the vets."

She also has plans going into the festive season: "We're gearing up for Christmas now.

"I'm going to be holding a 'spruce up' day the Monday before Christmas Day to get dogs looking their best.

"My calendar is really busy so I've got limited availability in the coming months but I'm always looking for new dogs to visit."
