A NEW painting experience that enables people to "de-stress" and "get messy" has opened in the city centre.

Splasherist Worcester on New Street, Worcester opened last month offering people the chance to get creative and produce their own piece of art.

The Worcester studio follows Splasherist's first venue in Bath, which opened in June 2023, while a Bristol studio is also set to open.

Olivia Gawd, who runs the Worcester venue and is one of three co-owners of Splasherist, said: "It's meant to be a cathartic experience and a bit of fun too of course - getting messy in our studio.

"Rather than a destructive experience, it's a constructive one. People can create their own artwork and take it home with them."

50-minute bookings at Splasherist Worcester include an A4-sized stretched canvas, four 50ml bottle of paint, protective clothing, and all the tools needed to create a masterpiece.

Miss Gawad said: "It's not just brushes and sponges though, we give people squeegees and spray bottles too.

"We want you to make a mess - in fact, we encourage you to use the walls, floors and ceilings for practice before you create your art work.

"The paints we use are non-toxic, water-based and they dry outwards, so eventually we will be able to simply peel the paint off the walls."

The experience can be enjoyed by adults and children aged five and above, with a maximum of 15 people allowed in one booking.

Miss Gawad said: "There are no rules or guidelines for this - we want people to break out of the lines rather than focus on creating a masterpiece.

"We have seen some amazing pieces so far and I think when people have gone freestyle with it, the art has turned out much better, rather than adding too much control to the process

"It's completely individual."

The venue is set to introduce a Splash and Dance workshop once a month from November 15 too, where a dance instructor will help people creative their art through movement.

Splasherist Worcester is open from 11am until 6pm on Thursday and Friday, and 10am until 6pm on weekends.
