A STOLEN motorbike belonging to a hospital chaplain has been found in pieces.

Reverend Doctor David Southall's Honda Deauville 650 motorbike was found in Ronkswood, Worcester on Friday night (October 18) after being stolen from his home two nights previous, as we previously reported.

Revd Southall, who is an on-call hospital chaplain for Worcestershire Acute Trust, said: "The police rang me on Friday night and said a dog walker had found it in a real state.

"It was in a big green space behind Ronkswood Community Centre, and the police have taken it to a local storage unit now."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "A motorbike which was stolen from Staplow Road in Worcester overnight on Wednesday, October 16 has now been recovered.

"Enquiries into the theft are ongoing."

The main body of the motorbike was found on its side with plastic pieces of the fairing, or shell, dotted across the field.

Revd Southall added: "My back storage box from the back is gone too - it's not reclaimable, it's a dead bike.

"They obviously tried to burn it too as the grass underneath it is black, and there are pieces just scattered everywhere.

"It's difficult to understand why people do this. In some ways, I feel a bit sorry for them.

"Something has gone wrong in civil society - perhaps they feel they have no opportunities."

The on-call hospital chaplain frequently travels to support patients and their families on end-of-life calls to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre and Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

On using a car rather than a motorbike, Revd Southall said: "It has hindered me as well to be honest. I get stuck in traffic and my response times have been slower.

"I was called out over the weekend and sadly, I got there 10 minutes after the person had died.

"I was still there to support the family of course, but my motorbike would have got me there on time."

In a statement released on Friday, West Mercia Police appealed to anyone with information regarding the theft.

The force said: "Anyone with information is urged to contact police quoting incident number 0093_I_17102024."
