Worcester flooding, latest road closures and updates

Vast swathes of Worcester and the surrounding countryside have been left looking like a murky mess after floodwater started to breach the banks of the River Severn on Friday, October 18.

The water swamped areas of the city such as Pitchcroft, but also closed roads in surrounding villages.

Both the River Severn and River Teme were at breaking point with reports of commutes between Malvern and Worcester taking up to and hour and a half on Friday.

Pitchcroft and Worcestershire County Cricket Club were two of the first big names to be underwater with Worcester City Council urging residents to move their vehicles out of car parks close to the river's edge. 

On Friday four horses were rescued by firefighters off Slingpool walk as water trapped the animals in their field.

More than 20 flood alerts remain in place at around 5pm today including in North and South Worcester.
River levels are rising at the Worcester (Barbourne) river gauge as a result of recent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected to continue.
The Environment Agency expects  flooding to affect Newport Street, Park View Terrace, The Butts and King Stephen’s Mount in Worcester.
Other  properties to be affected include  Quay Street, South Quay, Diglis Avenue, Hood Street, Pitchcroft Lane and Waterworks Road.
The predicted peak in Worcester is 5m to 5.15m, Sunday evening,.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours and  river levels are expected to remain high over the next few days.
The Camp House Inn was forced to close on October 20 due to floodwater entering the 17th-century pub overnight.
A number of roads across the county were closed throughout the weekend due to flooding. The following roads remained closed: Hanley Road, Upton upon Severn; - Brotheridge Green, Hanley Castle; Mill Lane, Hanley Castle; Severn Side South, Bewdley;   Bransford Court Lane, Bransford; Severn Side North, Bewdley.
