WORCESTER has been overlooked for a statue for a new Paddington bear trail sparking disappointment from fans.

A trail of Paddington Bear statues will be touring the UK to celebrate the forthcoming release of Paddington in Peru in cinemas.

In total, there will be 23 spots the bear will visit on his trail, with the closest one being Medicine Terrace at the Bullring Selfridges in Birmingham- but not Worcester.

The new statues will be permanently placed in the iconic venues, which include the Lands End and John O' Groats signposts, Ashby de la Zouch and shopping centres in Peterborough, Southampton and Sunderland.

Cllr Richard Udall voiced his disappointment at Worcester missing out, saying it was an 'absolute disgrace' that Worcester didn't receive a Paddington statue.

He added: "Why leave Worcester out?

"We demand a Worcester Paddington, I hear Paddington is a big fan of Lea and Perrins, liberally splashed on his marmalade sandwiches."

Another man said on social media: "There definitely should be a Worcester Paddington although judging by the reception the Penguins received he would probably be vandalised within hours."

Paddington In Peru will be in cinemas on November 8 and wil be available to watch at Vue Worcester.

Tomorrow (Sunday, October 20) will be Paddington Day at the Vue Cinema on Friar Street.

For one day only, if fans see Paddington or Paddington 2 at Vue they will get an exclusive sneak peek of Paddington in Peru.

Paddington in Peru stars Ben Wishaw as the loveable bear as well as high-profile actors such as Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Imelda Staunton, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters.

It follows the highly successful Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017) which both brought in huge box office returns and won critical acclaim.

Paddington lovers will also receive an eco-friendly wristband with their ticket to take home as a keepsake of the celebrations.

The much-loved marmalade-eating bear made his first appearance in Michael Bond’s book ‘ A Bear Called Paddington in 1958.

In 2022, he starred alongside Queen Elizabeth II in a special video to celebrate the late monarch's Platinum Jubilee.

Shirley and Eddie Clarkson, parents of former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, made the first-ever prototype Paddington through their small business, which they gifted to a young Jeremy for Christmas.
