AN ON-CALL hospital chaplain who uses his motorbike to attend end of life calls has had it stolen off his driveway.

Reverend Doctor David Southall, who has lived in Worcester for 15 years, had his motorbike stolen from his home overnight between Wednesday (October 16) and Thursday morning (October 17).

Revd Southall said: "It's a shame isn't it - I use it everyday and I've had some great adventures on it.

"It's sad really."

Revd Southall is an on-call hospital chaplain for Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and Kidderminster Treatment Centre.

He added: "Day to day, I'll go to end-of-life calls - so if people are dying or they've lost their baby, for example, I will be there to support them and their families.

"The calls I go out on are generally all serious."

Revd Southall works five days a week for Worcestershire Acute Trust but is on-call across the entire week.

He said: "Compared to a car, riding a motorcycle makes it much easier to travel between these places - I'm able to filter through traffic much more easily."

The motorbike stolen was a Honda Deauville 650 in which Revd Southall had clocked up over 40,000 miles since he bought it 15 years ago. It was taken from his driveway in Staplow Road, off Spetchley Road, Worcester.

Revd Southall said: "It's not an expensive bike - but it was my bike. You grow attached to them over time.

"I've been riding bikes for 40 years and this is the first time that I've ever had one stolen.

"It was a real workhorse of a bike - great for getting to different sites."

Revd Southall last saw the motorbike at 10pm on Wednesday night (October 16), and his wife was the first to notice it had gone missing.

He added: "My wife said in the morning, 'where's your motorbike?' and I told her it was on the driveway - but it wasn't."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police are investigating after a motorbike was stolen without keys overnight from October 16 to October 17 on Staplow Road in Worcester.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact police quoting incident number 0093_I_17102024."

Another motorbike, a white Yamaha, was stolen from a home in St Peter's, Worcester just two days previously leading to further police appeals.
