A PUB is to build chalet-style accommodation in response to growing demand from visitors.
The New Inn at Shrawley has been given planning permission to build a tepee-shaped chalet in its garden.
The pub’s owners said it receives regular requests for accommodation from tourists, hikers and guests attending nearby weddings.
“The site is fortunate in that it is located in a highly sustainable area, with excellent transport links, and is also positioned in close proximity to numerous local tourist attractions, including Stourport-on-Severn, Witley Court, The Malvern Hills, the River Severn and the Teme Valley,” a planning statement says.
The chalet will have one double bedroom and an open living/dining/kitchen area, a shower room and toilet, and storage/wardrobe spaces.
“The shape of the building’s footprint would facilitate the provision of full length feature patio doors and glazing serving both the bedroom and the open plan area.
“It would also create a central external patio area, which it is proposed would be laid with timber decking, creating a private outdoor amenity space.”
The building will be sheltered from the road and from the rest of the beer garden by an existing laurel hedge.

Plans put forward to Malvern Hills District Council said the development would “support the viability of the existing New Inn public house into the future, thus protecting a vital community asset which is the focal point of the village.
“As such, this proposal would help the local community meet its needs both now and into the future.”
Planning officers said the proposals “seek to diversify the business interests at whose heart remains the public house and that would assist longer term with the overall viability of the public house.
“The principle of development is therefore supported.
“The design is considered appropriate to the rural area and no harm to visual or neighbouring amenity, biodiversity, highway safety or flooding is identified.”
