A walking route in Worcestershire has been named among the best in Britain for an autumn walk this year in a list by The Telegraph.

The newspaper describes autumn as being “a magical season for walking” and shared “10 of Britain’s best autumnal walks.”

In the list, Malvern Hills was featured as the best walking spot for hilltop views.

The circular route starts and ends at Belle Vue Terrace car park in Great Malvern (WR14 4PZ).

Why is this Malvern Hills walk among the best autumn strolls?

The Telegraph said: “Famed for its natural spring water, Worcestershire spa town Great Malvern is a revitalising place. Here JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis discussed their literary ambitions and Elgar composed his orchestral masterpieces.

“It’s easy to see why Great Malvern’s enviable position at the foot of the Malvern Hills inspired such genius. Great by name, great by nature, the town nestles at the foot of a sweeping ridge of undulating hills, rising and falling with quintessential English charm.

“Boasting views of the Cotswolds one way and Wales’ Black Mountains to the other, walking in the Malvern Hills is superlative in autumn. The surrounding countryside flushes in deep reds, burnt oranges and tawny browns, and the airy ridgeline serves up bird’s eye views of this seasonal burst of colour.

“The area’s most iconic route climbs steeply to Worcestershire Beacon (425m) before looping back to town via Upper Colwall and North Hill.”

The newspaper shared an “insider tip” for those taking the walk which is to “grab refreshments at St Ann’s Well cafe, the site of a natural spring famed in the 19th century for its alleged curative powers.”

If you’re visiting the area for a longer stay, you can get cosy in a double room at Colwall Park Hotel from £138 per night with breakfast included.
