RESIDENTS on a city street are fed up after some have full fibre internet and some do not after work was delayed.

A broadband expert has echoed the "frustration" among some Battenhall residents who don't have full fibre internet despite homes on the same street having access.

CityFibre first announced work to roll out full fibre internet across Worcester in June 2021, however some residents in Battenhall are still without access.

Philip Fowler, a UW authorised provider from Worcester who helps people switch broadband deals, said: "People in Battenhall have come to me and said that work on the infrastructure in the road began, but then stopped all of a sudden.

"Battenhall Road is one example where some homes have CityFibre's infrastructure in place for full fibre, and others on the same road don't."

Asked for comment, CityFibre's partnership manager for Worcester, Neil Madle, said: "We will be continuing to roll out CityFibre's full fibre network in Worcester over the coming months, meaning even more residents and businesses will be able to connect soon.

"We will keep the local community informed ahead of any works starting in their area."

Worcester city councillor Louis Stephen, who represents Battenhall, said: "It's important for a lot of people who work from home that have access to good broadband."

Mr Fowler said that some homes on The Hill Avenue and St Dunstans Close were also unable to access full fibre as yet.

Mr Fowler added: "It's frustrating for me as a business that people want full fibre, but I can't give it to them.

"People I've spoken to have expected full fibre to come, but it hasn't happened for some."

Infrastructure service provider Kier Group was the project's build partner announced by CityFibre originally in 2021, and Kier Group confirmed it ceased work on the project in August 2023 after both parties exited the contract.

Worcestershire County Council's digital infrastructure and connectivity manager, Stephen Ashton said: "We’re continuing to liaise with CityFibre as they continue to roll out their full fibre network in Worcester.

"Most residents in the Battenhall area have access to superfast-fibre-to-the-cabinet’ already.

"The majority will also have access to fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband from broadband providers using Openreach and Fibre Heroes infrastructure.

"Residents can check with these companies to see if they can connect to gigabit-capable FTTP broadband.

"We do understand from some residents that a small number of properties in the area including some on Battenhall Avenue, Battenhall Road, Goodwood Avenue and Lancing Close do not have access to any FTTP broadband at the current time."
