AN air ambulance sped to the scene of a crash which saw a motorcylist injured.

The crash, between a car and a motorcycle on the A4172, ended with a man being taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries.

Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended the scene this morning (October 11) before first light.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an road traffic collision on the A4172 near Aylton, Hereford at around 5.20am.

"An ambulance, BASICS emergency doctor, MERIT trauma doctor and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Strensham were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a car and a motorbike had been involved in a collision.

"The motorcyclist, a man, was treated for potentially serious injuries and taken to Hereford County Hospital for further treatment."

During the incident the road had to be closed due to a fuel spillage. 

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Police along with fire and ambulance services attended a collision on the A4172 in Little Marcle at around 5.30am this morning (11 October).

"The collision involved a car and a motorbike.

"The man riding the motorbike has sustained injuries not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening and was taken to Hereford Hospital.

"The road was closed between Alton Court  Road and Trumpet Cross Road. The highways agency are now managing the ongoing road closure, due to a fuel spillage."

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service sent one fire engineer to the scene to assist during the incident. 

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One crew from Ledbury Fire Station was called at 5.28am on October 11 to an RTC in Little Marcle, Ledbury.

"The incident involved a car and a motorcycle.

"No persons were trapped but one male casualty was handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police."
