A POPULAR Malvern pub will be holding a beer and cider festival for the first time since it was taken over by the community. 

The Brewers Arms in Lower Dingle, West Malvern, will be hosting the 'Wild West Beer Festival' between Friday and Sunday, October 18 to 20.

The festival will have a cowboy theme, with staff donning clothes from the wild west and there will be plenty of food, games and entertainment that would have been popular with gunslingers. 

This is the first festival to be held at the West Malvern pub since it was bought from pub operator Admiral Taverns by the local community back in September 2022.

It has been organised by the 'Friends of the Brewers Arms’, an organisation set up to support activities and raise funds at the pub.

The event will feature over 20 different beers as well as half a dozen local ciders and perries.

The pub is now run by Lee Jones and his partner Kimberley Boughton, who took over as landlord and landlady in April 2023. 

Mr Jones told the Gazette: "This is our first beer festival, we have had festivals held at the pub in the past and they have always been very successful but we want to offer our own spin on it. 

"Everything is local about this pub and we wanted to reflect that in the festival, so many of the drinks and food we will have on offer will be sourced locally.

"I am excited to see how this festival goes, but so far we have received a lot of positive feedback about bringing this festival to the town."

As well as raising money for the pub, it is hoped the festival will raise vital cash for local charities. 

If this year's event goes well, Mr Jones said he is hoping to make it an annual event. 

He added: "We just want to keep our momentum going and keep the pub alive. 

"The pub has been neglected in previous years and it hasn't been great for locals so we want to work to make sure that is all behind us now."

Entry to the festival is free and dogs are welcome. 

Activities start at 5pm on the Friday and run throughout the weekend to Sunday night.
