A "powerhouse" Welsh folk band is set to visit Worcester on their farewell tour.

Calan, formed in 2006, announced that their autumn 2024 UK tour, which kicks off on Halloween (Thursday, October 31), will be their last.

The band will also release their final album, 'Nefydd', on Friday, November 22.

Calan's vocalist, Bethan Rhiannon, said: "Everything has its natural life, and now it's time to leave.

"Every gig in this final outing is going to be a celebration—a tour to end all tours."

The band have been big players on the British folk scene for nearly two decades, gaining a big fanbase with their critically acclaimed albums and tours across the UK, Europe, and the USA.

They were voted Best Band at the inaugural Wales Folk Awards, played at the Royal Albert Hall, and performed with orchestras in Europe, Britain, and America.

Calan also starred in a globally streamed online concert for New York's Metropolitan Opera House and, as recently as this summer, were chosen to represent the Best of Wales at Llangollen International Festival.

The band plans to perform tracks from their upcoming final album, along with fan favourites from their extensive back catalogue, during their farewell tour.

Fans attending the concerts will have the chance to purchase physical copies of the new album before its release.

Calan's Celtic and triple harpist, Shelley Musker Turner, said: "Everyone will have their favourites, but this new album is possibly the best thing we've ever done.

"There's certainly a lot to choose from—we've had some very busy, super-creative years."

After the tour, the band is planning one last performance of their own arrangements of traditional Welsh songs with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Calan's manager, Huw Williams, said: "If discussions go as we hope, we're aiming to record it in very early January for a TV broadcast on St David's Day, March 1.

"But first there's around 2,500 miles of touring to do... and around 50 hours of concerts.

"Calan are going out in some style."

The group will play at Huntingdon Hall on Sunday, November 3.
